There is a castle in the heights watching over everything. 

Right from its location at the top of Chapultepec Hill (Grasshopper hill) in Mexico City, the largest urban park in Latin America, Chapultepec Castle is the eternal witness of Mexico’s history, as it has watched emperors, armies and presidents, walk and live among its gardens and walls.

Originally constructed in 1725, it has housed Viceroys from the Spain colony, then a Military Academy, and afterwards the site of the Battle of Chapultepec during the Mexican-American War in 1847.  Chapultepec Castle is best known for being the residence of Emperor Maximilian I and his wife Empress Carlota, who communicated Chapultepec Castle with the historical centre by creating a parisian style boulevard, now the famous Reforma Avenue.  Porfirio Díaz also used it as residence, and after his downfall, president Lázaro Cárdenas ordered it's donation to the Mexican people, as the National History Museum.

Chapultepec is a vibrant part of the city, and a place I went to many school trips while growing up there.  I used to love the old giant trees, the walking trip to the castle, the beautiful greenhouse with ancient stained glass windows and orchids to last a lifetime, and the green now turned black fences of which popular mexican songs always talked about.  So close and yet so far away.  I sure missed this place.
